Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) is a free, state-funded program available to children who are four-years-old on or before September 1. VPK is a school readiness program prior to kindergarten eligibility. Children who are 4 by September 1, 2014 are eligible to attend school year VPK and those who will be 5 by September 1, 2014 are eligible to attend VPK in the summer of 2014.
Families select either a school year 3-hour per day program or wait until the summer for a full-day program. Families are not offered the option to enroll in both programs
Please view the Summer VPK page for program details and selected summer sites.
The School District of Volusia County will provide a free Voluntary Prekindergarten Program during the 2014-2015 school year. Families zoned for designated Title I schools and have a child who will be 4 years old on or before September 1, 2014 are eligible for our new VPK/Title 1 Early Learning Initiative.
Please view the VPK /Title I Early Learning Initiative for program details.
Studies have shown that students who attend VPK generally do significantly better in kindergarten than students who did not participate in a prekindergarten program. The program will operate during regular school days and follow the district's school year calendar.
Transportation will not be provided during the summer programs. Parents may register students at the school in which their child is zoned. To participate a child must:
be zoned for designated Title I schools
be 4 years old on or before September 1, 2014;
be a resident of Volusia County &
have a current, valid 2014-15 School Year COE
The Certificate of Eligibility ( COE) must be obtained from the Early Learning Coalition of Flagler and Volusia Counties - 386-323-2400 or 386-736-5010 or www.elcfv.org.
