Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) is a free, state-funded program available to children who are four-years-old on or before September 1. VPK is a school readiness program prior to kindergarten eligibility. Children who are 4 by September 1, 2013 are eligible to attend school year VPK and those who will be 5 by September 1, 2014 are eligible to attend VPK in the summer of 2014
Families select either a school year 3-hour per day program or wait until the summer for a full-day program. Families are not offered the option to enroll in both programs
The School District of Volusia Count will provide a free Voluntary Prekindergarten Program during the 2013-2014 school year. Families zoned for Pierson Elementary, Turie T Elementary or Westside Elementary and who have a child who will be 4 years old on or before September 1, 2013 are eligible for our new VPK/Title 1 Early Learning Initiative. Studies have shown that students who attend VPK generally do significantly better in kindergarten than students who di not participate in a prekindergarten program. The program will operate during regular school days and follow the district's school year calendar.
Transportation will not be provided. Parents can register students at th school in which their child is zoned. To participate a child must:
be zoned for Pierson, Turie T. Small or Westside;
be 4 years old on or before September 1, 2013;
