    • Parent Involvement Award
Parent Involvement Award is sponsored by the Florida PTA and the Florida Department of Education.    The purpose of the award is to promote and recognize innovative practices that increase family involvement.  A district selection committee nominates two submissions to Florida Department of Education for regional awards.  The 2012 district nominees are Freedom Elementary School's Live Safe Program and Campbell Middle School's Our World of Books: Family Reading Night and Book Fair program.

Congratulations Freedom Elementary and Campbell Middle - 2012 District Winners!

Freedom Elementary's Live Safe Program's main objective is to educate parents on keeping children safe in the community.  Partnering with the City of DeLand and Officer Hancock, the program consists of educating parents on how to keep children safe from sexual offenders and predators, and the warning signs to look for in the community.  Officer Hancock also discusses the dangers of surfing the internet and informs parents how to use the internet safely and how to protect students when they use the internet.

Campbell Middle School's Our World of Books: Family Read Night & Book Fair was designed to encourage parents, students, and community partners to be inspired by this year's school district theme Soaring to Success in the Global Age.  The program provides students with the opportunity to participate in reading enrichment activities and gave access to a variety of resources, such as CultureGrams and ProQuest. Some of the activities included learning about different countries, sampling food from those countries, and also learning where in the world certain words have originated from (etymology).
