    Funding purpose/priorities

    The Title II, Part A – Teacher and Principal Training and Recruiting Fund assists with the implementation of Florida’s Common Core State Standards and the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards.  Activities shall be aligned with the Next Generation PreK-20 Benchmark:  Improve Quality of Teaching in the Education System.  Local Education Agencies (LEAs) and schools are held accountable for improvements in student academic achievement.  Projects are intended to increase student academic achievement through strategies such as improving teacher and principal quality and increasing the number of highly qualified and/or infield and effective teachers in the classroom and highly effective principals and assistant principals in schools.  Projects are expected to address and take action on the differences in teacher effectiveness between particular types of schools giving priority to teachers not meeting highly qualified requirements.

    ·        Title II, Part A – Teacher and Principal Training and Recruiting funds are to be used to provide professional development activities in core academic areas (reading/language arts, math, science, social studies, arts and foreign languages) to improve teaching practices and student academic achievement


    ·        Title II, Part A funds target schools with the lowest proportion of infield effective teachers, the largest class size or identified for school improvement [Section2122(b)(3)(A-C)]


    ·        Title II, Part A activities are based on a District-wide needs assessment taking into account how to best give teachers the knowledge and skills through professional development to provide all students the opportunity to meet challenging student performance standards [Section 2122(c)(1-2)]


    ·        Title II, Part A funds are to be used to supplement and increase the level of funds from non-federal sources available for professional development [Section 2123(b)]


    ·        Title II, Part A funds provide nonpublic schools with professional development for teacher/principal training in the core academic subjects, as well as best practices in the areas of classroom management and instructional strategies​
