Westside's Night Alive
The primary purpose of this character-building program is to enhance the safety of our students and build positive relationships between students and staff. In addition, this promotes the development of leadership skills and good citizenship qualities. A safety patrol's job is to model for students the safety rules that have been taught in the classroom, to assist students in safe transitions throughout the school, and to keep students safe on campus by communicating in a positive manner. Patrols receive instructions in safety guidelines and procedures during their training and regular patrol meetings. See Mrs. Maltoni for more information.
Eagle Network News
Eagle Network News (ENN) boradcasts live announcements each morning. Student recognition is featured. Students operate the entire show with supervision from the media specialist. The crew consists of anchors, camera, sound and video mixer technicians, announcers, and assistants.
Please see Mrs. Crawford in the media center for more information.
Students have the opportunity to participate in the Eagle-ettes. This dynamite dance group practices after school. If you are interested in participating, please see Mrs. Bradley-Rayam in the front office.
One Book One School
One Book, One School is a program designed to create a shared reading experience within a single school community. A book is chosen (for elementary schools, it is usually a chapter book.) Older students can read the book on their own, and younger students can have it read to them by teachers, parents, or librarians. Every family in the school receives a copy of the book, and every family reads it at home over the course of a single month. Activities at school coordinate, promote and enrich the shared reading experience. Our theme for One Book One School is "Windows and Mirrors". Our fantastic media specialist, Mrs. Crawford, has chosen several books for this family reading event. Please see Mrs. Crawford in the media center for more information.
Bethune Cookman University
Westside Elementary School and BCU have come together to form a partnership under the Professional Development Schools initiative.
Through monthly meetings, we collaborate to help bring a higher standard to education through classroom interaction, assessments, interventions, after school projects, and more. We are extremely proud of the support of Bethune Cookman University and the relationship that is being fostered.
