GIRLS ON THE RUN
The Girls on the Run curriculum was developed to meet the unique needs of girls in grades 3-5. Rich with themes girls can relate to. The school program runs for 10 weeks and meets after school concluding with Girls on the Run 5K celebratory event.
CHESS CLUB -
We are excited to announce this brand new club to Tomoka for our 4th and 5th graders. This club is for those students who love the game of Chess or for those whare intereseted in learning how to play the game. Students must be in good PBIS standing to participate and will be held once a month after school. Space is limited so students will be accepted on a "first come, first serve" basis.
CHORUS -
Tomoka Elementary has a long-standing tradition of excellent choral groups. This year's Chorus is a 50-voice choir made up of musically talented 4th and 5th graders. These students perform one- and two-part choral music with choreography at the Winter and Spring concerts each year. They have also participated in the Ormond Beach Christmas parade and performed at a variety of other venues in the Ormond and Daytona Beach communities.
STOMP -
The Tomoka Stomp Percussion Ensemble is a new performing group at Tomoka this year. They meet on Friday afternoons after school until 3:30pm. The students perform intricate rhythms on unusual items like basketballs, trash cans, water bottles, chairs and a variety of things most people would consider junk. Mrs. Light was the first teacher in Florida to create an ensemble like this at the elementary level and has had Stomp performing groups for over 20 years. The routines are loosely based on the New York Stage Show STOMP OUT LOUD. Look for us on the Winter and Spring concerts this year. It will be unlike any performing group you have seen before.
ORFF XYLOPHONE ENSEMBLE -
The Orff Xylophone Ensemble is a group of students who perform on the xylophones that were created by the famous composer Carl Orff. His process of teaching music to children and these instruments have existed world-wide for decades. At Tomoka, our students will be performing on the xylophones while they accompany our Chorus this year. In addition, they will be featured with their own performance pieces that will showcase the musically talented students at Tomoka. Look for this special performing group on our Winter and Spring concerts this year.
SAFETY PATROL -
Safety Patrols are selected from 5th graders only. These students are a vital part of our school environment for safety, respectful behavior and helping out in waiting areas in the morning and afternoon. Students need to demonstrate respectful and responsible behavior in previous grades, stay on honor roll and have all 1's in conduct and effort. During the year they will participate in service projects for the community, fund raising and have field trips just for patrols.
STEM/Robotics CLUB -
Tomoka has started a STEM/Robotics club this year which meets on Tuesdays after school for 4th and 5th grade students. Students use Lego Mindstorm EV3 robots and are learning how to build and program the bots.
