    ​​Parent and Family Digital Learning Guide: 

    What can this guide do for you? Your involvement in your child’s education can lead to better learning results and outcomes. This “Parent and Family Digital Learning Guide” will inform you, as a parent or caregiver, as you monitor your child’s progress as your child accesses and uses technology for learning. This guide aims to help all parents and caregivers, including those who have limited experience with digital tools, those who are expert with these tools, and anywhere in between. Each section starts with foundational pieces and builds from there.​


    ​​​​​​Virtual Instruction Program:

    Virtual Instruction Program (VIP). Students have the option of enrolling in either part-time or full-time virtual courses for the upcoming school year.  

    The initial enrollment period for participation in the full-time virtual course will begin on April 20, 2020 and closes July 4, 2020. For your convenience, a second enrollment period will open on July 5, 2020 and closes July 19, 2020. 



    ​​​​​​​Important Message:

    In the case of an emergency that requires full evacuation of the campus, our Sunrise students will be transported to Heritage Middle School for pick up. In the unlikely event that this should occur, parents will be notified promptly of the procedures for pick up.

    ​​​School Way Cafe Meal Policy

    USDA Extends Free Meals through June 4​

    DELAND – USDA has extended the meal program that allows all children 18 and younger in schools and the community to eat for free.

    Starting Wednesday, September 9, all students attending in-person classes in Volusia County Schools will receive their breakfast and lunch meals at no charge. Additionally, a free, weekly curbside meal service will be provided for children not attending in-person classes.

    Most schools (see pre-registration form for locations) will offer the weekly curbside meal service for children age 18 and younger who are not attending in-person classes. This includes virtual learning students who are not attending VCS’ Traditional Classroom Setting option.

    For the curbside meal service, families may pick up meals each Tuesday from 6:30 a.m.-7:00 a.m. starting September 15. The program will operate through June 4​. Meals will be bundled with five breakfasts and five lunches.

    Registration for curbside meal service is required and must be completed weekly between 8 a.m. Tuesday and 11:59 p.m. Thursday for the following Tuesday’s pickup. Register for meals weekly using this form:

    Parents must show their ID when picking up meals, as well as a form of ID for each student requesting meals. Current student ID cards or birth certificates are acceptable.

    All schools will serve curbside meals, except for Manatee Cove Elementary (pickup at River Springs Middle), Timbercrest Elementary (pickup at Galaxy Middle), and Turie T. Small Elementary (pickup at Campbell Middle).

    Students attending Ivy Hawn, Richard Milburn Academy West, Richard Milburn Academy East, and AMI Kids will pay for meals based on their current meal eligibility.  

    All parents, regardless of where their children attend school are encouraged to apply for free or reduced meal benefits for this school year. Families may access the meal benefits application at

    ​​​​School Uniforms​​

    Sunrise Elementary School's designated uniform shirt colors for the 2020-2021 school year are, white, navy blue, black and gray. Please review the attached flyer for details regarding the recently-adopted Volusia County Schools student uniform policy.

    The Parent Resource Center has educational games and resources, that can be checked out for use at home. If you have any questions, please contact our Parent Liaison, Emalix Infante

    If you have polo shirts that your child has outgrown the Parent Resource Center will gladly accept your polos. They will help families in need, or when the clinic is in a pinch.

    The Volunteer/Partnership Programs Department replaced the paper Volunteer Application with an online application through the Raptor System.The application in electronic form can be accessed from the Raptor Kiosk at any school or by using any type of computer. The link to the new online application is available on our Website under "Related Links". The online application is available in English and Spanish versions.

    Online Application Instructions

    1. Fill out the online application form on any computer or the Raptor Kiosk at any school. Be sure to use your full legal name and birthdate.
    2. Have your government issued ID scanned at a school or district site. Your ID must match the name and birthdate you provided on your volunteer application.
    3. Once approved, you will receive an e-mail to the address you provided in your application. Approvals are immediate if there are no alerts from the background check.
    4. All volunteer approvals will expire on June 30, 2020, requiring volunteers to renew. Your ID will not need to be scanned again unless your name has legally changed.

    NOTE: The Raptor system that is used to check in visitors and volunteers has been upgraded. Any volunteer who was cleared prior to June 3, 2019 will need to have his/her ID re-scanned. IDs will not transfer as part of this upgrade. A new application will not be required until July 1, 2020.​

Be sure to check back frequently for events and activities occurring throughout Volusia County.

    Don't have computer access at home? A computer is available for your use in the media center and at every Volusia County Public Library. ​

    Registration Information

    If you are new to Florida and are registering your child at Sunrise, the following is needed:

    • Proof of address (something received via U.S. Mail, for example a phone or electric bill).
    • Birth Certificate (must be state issued, not hospital).
    • Florida Physical ( done within the last year, filled out on the yellow form provided by the doctor).
    • Up-to-date Shot Record on Blue Card DH 680.
    • Social Security number if available.​​
