Welcome to RJ Longstreet Elementary School!

Longstreet Elementary is a small school located on the beachside in Daytona Beach.  It is nestled in a beautiful suburban setting between the Halifax River and the Atlantic Ocean.  The school encompasses a large geographic area serving students from Seabreeze Blvd. to Ponce Inlet and a group of students from the mainland of Daytona Beach.  Longstreet opened in 1954 and serves approximately 460 students in grade kindergarten through fifth.  Longstreet is a Title I School with 74% of the students qualifying for free or reduced lunch.

A major renovation was completed in the fall of 2008 which included a new art/music wing, consistent outer facings on all wings, new windows, doors, cabinetry, and flooring.  The school has a computer lab with the capacity to accommodate up to 25 students. Each classroom has modern technology in the form of data projectors and audio enhancement.

This small school prides itself on being a community school.  Longstreet was designated a “A” school in 2012.  Longstreet has been recognized as a Five Star School for the last 12 years and was also a recipient of the Golden School Award.

Part of the secret to the success of this wonderful school is the active parent involvement. This includes a very active PTA which sponsors many events throughout the school year.  These events include the Storybook Fall Carnival, Holiday Craft Night, Family Science Night, and Field Day. The Longstreet PTA provides grants for each teacher to purchase classroom supplies.  The school also has active support from the community.  For the fourth year, the school participated in the “Adopt A Class” program sponsored by a group of  21 citizens from the Ponce Inlet area.  This organization provided funds for classroom materials and supplies for teachers. They donated over $2,713.71 to our classrooms!
