    Congratulations PRHS Manufacturing Students

    Congratulations to the Manufacturing students that participated in Seaperch on Saturday, May 6th at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona. Seaperch is an underwater robotic competition. PRHS teams placed first in the Open division and second in the Stock division. Drivers Edwin Rosado and Steven Ortiz led the Panthers.

    I'm happy to announce that Bel Canto (our advanced women's choir) earned the highest possible rating at State MPA - straight superiors. This is the first time in school history that we've gotten all superiors at state (In 2011, the choir received 2 superiors and an excellent - that's the only other time a choir at this school has gotten an overall superior at State)! ​Thank you so much for your support!

    Congratulations PRHS Band

    Congratulations to PRHS band, under the direction of Band Director, Mr. Robinson. They performed their MPA’s for the first time at FBA—Florida Bandmaster Association State Concert Band in Gainesville. The band received two goods and an excellent from the three judges. This beats the school record as our band has only gone to state once in 1997 and got straight goods.

    We had an awesome turnout at State Solo and Ensemble this Saturday!

    We walked away with 20 superior with distinction medals and 3 superior medals. (I don’t remember ever getting one w/ distinction in the past)
    Jazz Band received an excellent rating. – (I’m still trying to check the FBA archives to see if our jazz band has ever even gone to state, no word yet, definitely not since 2000 as that’s as far back as I can check online)

    Congratulations PRHS Track

    Congratulations to our Track Panthers this past Friday at the Five Star Conference Meet. The top 8 finishes in each event placed. Those who placed for our team included:

    • The Boys’ 4X400 Relay team finished 8th.
    • Jalen Gowen placed 7th in the high jump.
    • Stevon Dennis ran a personal best in the 200m with a time of 23.44 and Johnathan Huggins came in 9th with a time of 23.03.
    • Johnathan Huggins placed 4th in the long jump with a distance of 6.27m.
    • Dillon Torres ran a personal best in the 400m with a time of 56.06.
    • Kameron Bell ran a personal best in the 100m with a time of 13.93.
    • The Boys’ 4X100 Relay team finished 7th.
    • The Girls’ 4X100 Relay team finished 6th.
    • Rachel Matteson ran a personal best in the 1600m with a time of 6:37.
    • Kortnee Powers placed 7th and ran a personal best of 5:48 in the 1600m.
    • Johnathan Huggins ran a personal best in the 100m with a time of 11.47.
    • Sherwaine Rhoden also ran a personal best of 13.87 in the 100m.
    • The Girls’ and Boys’ 4X800 Relay teams finished 7th and 8th respectively.

    Way to go Panthers! The next meet will be Wednesday at Deland. ☺

    Congratulations Theatre Troupe #5532

    PRHS Theatre Troupe #5532, under the direction of teacher, Miss Goodin and Mr. Bodino performed in the State Thespian Competition over spring break with over 6,000 other students.
    Freshman Karina Pomales and Senior Erik Feliciano received an Excellent rating for their Duet Musical
    number. Senior Cristina Nieves received two Excellent scorings for her Solo Musical and Costume Design. Finally, Senior Cheyenne Patterson scored a Superior rating with her Solo Musical, “Daddy’s Son”. Great job Troupe #5532.

    Congratulations PRHS Wrestling - 2/20/17

    This past weekend at Harmony High School, at the 2A District 6 Wrestling Tournament, the following wrestlers placed in the top 4 in their respective weight classes and qualified for the 2A Region 2 Tournament this upcoming weekend in Brandon, FL. All 4 of these wrestlers have overcome various obstacles to get to this point, and for 3 of them, it is the first full wrestling season they have ever participated in. Gabe Laureano (3rd at 152), Junior Orellana aka “Mr. Pine Ridge” (4th at 182), Eli Montgomery (4th at 195), and Marc Ortiz (2nd at 285).

    Congratulations to our Dancing with the Teachers champion, Mrs. Tina McGarvey and students Kyle Colon and Jordan Ortiz! Runner up was Ms. Michelle King who performed with Christina Vega, Tiyah Finley and Cheyanne Patterson. All 8 eight performances were fantastic! The special performances during intermission were great as well! Thank you to the great emcee’s and judges. Great job to all of the participants and all of the hard work put in by many people to make this event a success. All proceeds will go to relay for Life. If you missed the performances last night, you will have the opportunity to purchase a DVD at a later date.

    Two Pine Ridge students were chosen for the Champions of Character Luncheon that coincides with the NAIA National Championship Football Game on December 17. Our kids were nominated, submitted application and were chosen to represent Pine Ridge High School. Their parents and administration  attended the luncheon at The Ocean Center in Daytona Beach. They should be congratulated for their efforts getting them to this point as they go against the best from other Volusia County Schools..

    I wanted to take a moment to share with you how proud I am of Troupe 5532. On Wednesday, November 16th, we performed our one act, “This is a Test” and received an excellent rating on the performance, and a superior performance on the technical performance of the show. On Saturday, November 19th, our troupe competed with 24 individual events and brought home 10 superior ratings and 6 excellent ratings.

    11/17/16 Sports News

    Mashell Rodriguez scored another hat trick and Naya Hurley scored one goal to give the Panthers their 3rd consecutive home game win.

    Brooke Walden made 22 saves in goal and she made an another spectacular penalty kick save against Seabreeze to keep the Panther undefeated at home.

    Congratulations PRHS Senior Robert Walker

    Senior Wide Receiver Robert Walker was selected to represent Pine Ridge in the 2016 Central Florida All-Star game. Robert was selected as one of the best players in Central Florida by a panel of high school media members. This is a huge accomplishment as he will be playing along side some of the best players in the state. Robert finished the year with 49 catches for 849 yards and 14 touchdowns which led all area receivers. The game will be played December 8th at Lake Brantley High School.

    Congratulations Girls Soccer

    PRHS Girls Soccer wins consecuitive home game 8-0 against Leesburg High Schoo.
    Goals were scored by Ivy Grace Morgan, Nayarith Hurley and Hannah O'Conner. Marshall Rodriguez scored a hat trick and Alysia Isosencio scored two goals. 

    Congratulations PRHS Sophomore Dillon Torres

    Sophomore Quarterback Dillon Torres was recognized as one of the area players of the week by the Daytona Beach News Journal. Dillon came in with two minutes left in the 3rd quarter and threw for 149 yards and 3 touchdowns.

    PRHS AVID senior and band member Gabby Mejia has been selected to the Florida State University Tri-Sate Honor Band! Gabby and a parent will travel to Tallahassee during the first week in December. This is a terrific honor! Congratulations Gabby!

    Congratulations to Coach Bolanos and girls soccer team for their 8-0 conference and district win over Taylor High last evening!

    PRHS varsity football senior wide receiver Robert Walker is the number one ranked receiver in the area. He has 669 receiving yards on the season with 12 touchdowns. Senior Will Rauseo is the eighth ranked quarterback with 1,134 passing yards and 13 TD passes.

    Good luck to PRHS sophomore Kortnee Powers as she runs tomorrow morning in the FHSAA state Cross Country Championships. Kortnee will be supported in Tallahassee by AD Brad Montgomery and CC coaches Holly and Jared Taylor. Go Kortnee!!!

    Congratulations PRHS Marching Band

    Congratulations to the PRHS Marching Panthers, under the direction of Paul Robinson, for earning a SUPERIOR rating at the FBA Marching MPA Competition on Saturday, 10/29/16. Well done!


     Congratulations Coach Newton

    She competed at the USAW North Carolina state championship. The meet featured 120 weightlifters from across the state of North Carolina to compete for the title of best lifter in the state of North Carolina. The two day event was the largest​​ State weightlifting meet in history.

    She won first place in her weight class as well as best female weightlifter. Her team, Harrisburg Weightlifting Club, won the NC state championship for the Women (Best female weightlifting team).

    She is now training for a USAW Nationals event which will be held the weekend of December 10th in Orlando, Florida. This event includes weightlifter from all over the United States who met the qualifying total to compete at this National Event called the American Open.

    Congratulations to sophomore, Kortnee Powers for qualifying for State at the cross country regional meet.

    October 24th Cross Country Recognition

    Congratulations to PRHS Sophomore, Kortnee Powers for placing 6th at the cross country district meet and to PRHS Junior, Christina Vega for placing 15th.  Both girls will be competing in the regional meet on Saturday in Lakeland.  Good luck and go Panthers! 

    October 21st Football Recognition

    Congratulations to Coach Yancey and the varsity football team on their thrilling 13-7 district win over Matanzas High School last evening! The coaches and team have been working SO hard, it is nice to see that hard work start to pay off. Great job, everyone!

    Congratulations to the boys bowling team for beating Deland, and to Jacob Shattuck for ending the season with a 215 average the highest in the District. 

    Congratulations to the girls bowling team for beating Deland, and for Leeanne Davidson bowling a 234 and bethany Hirt for bowing a 201. 

    October 17th Congratulations Girls' Volleyball

    Congratulations to Coach Eckert and the girls’ volleyball team. On Saturday morning, they defeated Taylor High School 3-1 to take the Five Star Conference title. The team is led by seniors Sorrell Houghton, Katie Monroe and Aleysha Lugo. Awesome job! They begin district tournament play tomorrow, taking on the Atlantic High School. Good luck!!!

    Congratulations to PRHS Volleyball on their win against Warner Christian. 
    Highlights - Aleysha Lugo had 39 assists;  Catherine Monroe had 15 kills, 3 blocks and 1 assist;
    Sorrel Houghton had 2 aces, 3 assists ans 28 kills.  Pine Ridge finishes with an 12-9 record for the season. 

    Congratulations to the PRHS boys bowling Team and Jacob Shattuck for bowling a 289 &
    Aiden Trapen for bowling his new high score 265.  Also congratulations to the girls bowling team for beating Flagler Palm Coast & Bethany Hirt for bowling a 234.

    JV Football - last night in our game against Deltona High our JV Panthers overcame an 18-7 defecit with seven minutes left in the game to win 21-18.  Outstanding performances were turned in by
    Blake Lee, Darius May, David Rivera, Tre Robinson, Vinny Roggozino, Rilei Levesque and the entire offensive line.   

    Congratulations PRHS Robotics Competition

    Congratulations to Mr. Maynard, Mr. Smith and the robotics competition team for their third place finish in the Volusia Manufacturing Association’s event on Friday! The Panthers were led by Nathan Osterhous, Richard Riley, and Kane Dejesus.

    Sports News 9/28/16

    Good news for PR athletics yesterday. The volleyball teams swept Mainland 3-0 in the varsity match and the JVs won 2-0. In bowling, the girl’s and boy’s teams both swept Spruce Creek 7-0! Congratulations to the coaches and players. Homecoming week is off to a great start.

    Charnese Williams, Pine Ridge High School Alumni (Class of 2015), was featured in the Foundation for Seminole State College, Campaign Impact Report, Magazine for her internship work with Interior Designer, Amber Clore. Charnese was an AVID student from grades 7 through 12, serving as PRHS’s AVID President her senior year. While in high school she juggled a multitude of Honors and AP classes, a part time job, while also being very involved in our school and community. Charnese participated in National Honor Society, Key Club, Panthers Learning Center Tutor, Wrestling (placing 2nd in the state), Flag Football, and Weight Lifting.

    Today, Charnese is a sophomore at Seminole State College working on completing her AA degree. She will be transferring to Florida State University to pursue her Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design. Charnese is still actively giving back to her community and her Alma Mater; she is an AVID Tutor, a substitute teacher, and Student Mentor.

    I am SO proud of this wonderful young lady and all of her hard work and dedication! Go Panthers! Go AVID!
