    Parents

    Dear Parents:

Some teachers in our school are participating in a research study conducted by Florida State University to better understand how a professional learning program for teachers called Cognitively Guided Instruction impacts mathematics teaching and learning. You have the right to have your child’s information withheld from the study if you do not wish to participate. Please review the parental notification letter here for more information about the study.  Your support of research on mathematics instruction and professional development is greatly appreciated.  https://teachingisproblemsolving.org/parental-notification

    Attendance and Tardy Policy Information

Regular school attendance is critical for student success. The loss of 10 minutes of academic instructional time each day due to being tardy or checked out of school early multiplied by 180 school days equals 30 hours of lost instruction each school year. Please make every effort for your child to be in school every day.

Early check-outs should be limited to emergencies to limit the loss of student academic instructional time. Student dismissal time is 2:30 PM each day and 1:30 PM on Early Release days.

    Tardies

The tardy bell rings at 7:50 AM for students to proceed to class. All students not in the classroom at 7:50 a.m. will be marked "TARDY" and will need a Tardy Pass before proceeding to class. Please be aware that according to District Attendance Policies, 5 tardies equal 1 unexcused absence.

The office staff and district support personnel monitor school attendance, tardies and check outs, and will contact you if there is a concern.

Changes in the Way Your Child Usually Goes Home

IF YOU NEED TO MAKE A CHANGE IN THE WAY YOUR CHILDREN GET HOME FROM SCHOOL, PLEASE NOTIFY THE FRONT OFFICE BEFORE 1:30 EACH DAY.

If a change must be made in the way your child usually goes home, be sure to notify the teacher in writing. Please avoid calling the school to leave messages for your child unless it is an emergency. It interferes with the flow of instruction when we have to interrupt to deliver messages.

    Bus Transportation

ALL Pierson Elementary students are eligible for school bus ridership. Stops within the same route may be changed for emergency reasons if pre-approved by the principal.

Checking Out Students During School Hours

If a student must leave school before the end of the school day, his/her parent/guardian must go to the office to sign him/her out. Identification is required. NO CHECKOUTS AFTER 2PM.

    ParentPortal

Please contact Silvia Denova (ext. 22304) in the front office for login information to access the Parent Portal. Parent Portal is a medium for parents to monitor student attendance, assignment completion, and grades, as well as, schedule conferences and communicate with your child's teacher.

    Free and Reduced Lunch

Students need healthy meals to learn. Good nutrition is essential for academic success. Your children may qualify for free or reduced lunch if your family income falls within federal guidelines. Please stop in the front office for a Free / Reduced Meal Application, or see the link at right to complete the form online.
