In working towards creating a safe campus, staff and students participate in a number of safety drills over the course of the school year. We have completed three fire drills so far. Beginning in October we will conduct our monthly fire drill as well as drills for other emergency situations, including severe weather and hazardous materials. Safety is a priority on our campus. In the unlikely event that our campus must be evacuated in the interest of safety, parents and guardians will be notified immediately. Our primary evacuation site is Seabreeze High School. I am very proud of our students for remaining calm and following directions as we practice what to do in different situations.

Beginning in the 2017-2018 school year, Ortona Elementary will no longer be a "Plus 1" school.
The school day will now begin at 7:55 a.m. and end at 2:05 p.m. Students will be marked tardy at 7:56 a.m.
During and following an emergency situation, school and district officials must act quickly and follow established emergency protocols to safeguard students and staff, secure schools, and communicate accurate information in a timely manner. Parents can assist greatly by helping with preparation before the emergency.
