WELCOME TO ORTONA ELEMENTARY'S MEDIA CENTER!
ORTONA is engaged in 21st - Century lifelong learning which empowers our students and prepares them for real- world life experiences. I support the curriculum and enhance the pleasure of finding something good to read.
This guide provides information about the Ortona Elementary library and available online resources.
Mission Statement:
The mission of our library media program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information and to provide students with the necessary skills to be future ready and globally competitive by using a variety of media resources.
Media Center Procedures:
- This year you may place a book on hold in Destiny and I will deliver it to you in your classroom or leave it in the front office for pick up if you are a Live student.
- Remember your library card! It's your passport to borrow library books.
- Take good care of our books.
- Return books on time. Books may be checked out for one week and may be renewed two times.
- 1 book may be checked out at a time for grades K-5 unless a child owes the library an outstanding book. K-2 will be allowed 1 book to be kept in the classroom.
Volunteers: Due to COVID-19 no volunteers are allowed on campus until further notice.
If you love to read and help children then volunteering in the Media Center is wonderful opportunity. We are looking for dedicated individuals to help with the following areas.
- shelve books
- prepare materials
- assist with book fair
- type certificates
- assist with inventory

Reading Promotions:
They can earn dog tags for each of the 15 books read.
