LAB FEE: There is an initial $25 lab fee that is collected at the beginning of the school year. Lab fees up to a total of $100 will be collected throughout the year AS NEEDED. There are fundraising opportunities if your family is unable to meet this financial obligation.
ACADEMICS: Our program is academically rigorous (all classes are taught at the Honor's level, with accommodations for students with lower academic abilities) and requires students to self monitor project timelines and milestones. If your child works well without direct and immediate oversight of his or her classwork, the STEM Academy would be a good fit.
ATTENDANCE: We typically only do three days of core subject instruction a week due to our block scheduling. If your child does not have near perfect attendance, it may be difficult for him or her to keep up with the rigorous academic requirements.
BEHAVIOR: STEM students are held to a higher level of behavioral expectations. Extreme or consistently inappropriate behavior will result in the removal from the STEM program. Being in the STEM Academy is a privilege, and due to frequent tool use, safety is our #1 priority. Students unable to demonstrate self-control at all times will be removed to maintain the safety of themselves and others. If your child accumulates five warnings (parent contacts), then your child may be removed from the Galaxy STEM Academy. Inappropriate behaviors considered by the administrator to be extreme or egregious can result in multiple notifications/warnings, or immediate removal from the program.
