Guidance Services - Diana Dean - Guidance Counselor
Each day the teachers and staff at Friendship Elementary put forth an extraordinary effort to care for your sons and daughters academic needs. However, we do also realize that from time to time there may also be a need for additional support for academic, emotional and/or behavioral needs, which is offered, through the school guidance department.
Guidance services often include individual and/or group counseling, monthly classroom guidance lessons, academic assistance, parent conferences, community resource information, and other services requiring counselor intervention. These services are available to all students, across all grade levels, and can be accessed via a student, parent and/or teacher request. Parents are also welcome to make an appointment in order to discuss child or family needs and/or concerns.

The students at Friendship love to visit the Media Center where the electronic card catalog makes finding books easy and fun. We have a large number of fiction and non-fiction books for both students, parents and teachers to check out. Students are able to use the media computers for Reading Counts test or other research based learning. Students are encouraged to come in before school to check out or work with FCAT Explorer.
The media specialist follows a rotating schedule of class instruction where children learn media skills, and the student opportunity for book checkout remains available throughout the day. 4th and 5th grades students work with Glogster to create an electronic poster on a topic they have researched.

The Media staff also sponsors the Reading Counts Program. With 1,000s of our books qualifying as Reading Counts books, this offers a very motivational reading opportunity for our students. The students also have an opportunity to earn RC bucks to use in the RC Store each quarter. They earn 1 buck for every 5 points earned. This media center is open for students to take quizzes when their teachers allow them to come to the media center. Currently they are able to take quizzes before school beginning at 7:35.
The Media Center is the resource hub of the school for students, teachers and the parent community. These resources supplement and complement classroom instruction, enhance teaching and student learning, as well as satisfy social, cultural and recreational needs. Parents are encouraged to come in and checkout books for their students as well.
Science Lab
Friendship has it's very own science lab available to all K-5 students. The lab is complete with teacher demonstration station, bulletin boards, accommodations for 20+ students, and several science kits. Some of the Big Ideas we'll be exploring in our new lab will be matter, energy, life, space, and earth sciences. The science lab is stocked with some basic science tools, and we are always grateful for donations of time and equipment.
