Ms. Tellier-Freedom Music Teacher
2018-2020 at Patel Conservatory at the Straz Center in Tampa, FL:
- Responsible for 6 piano classes (ages 7-11, 12-14, functional piano, and homeschool classes) throughout the school year (September through May)
- Assist with the music portion of musical theater classes; our classes were general musical theater for ages 7-11 and audition preparation for middle and high school students
- Teach and plan musical theater summer camps; I was involved in multiple camps that spanned from elementary ages through middle school each summer, working with students to learn music and occasionally choreography and acting
- Music directed Patel Conservatory Theater Productions: I was the music director for The Wizard of Oz (elementary/middle), Suessical, Jr (elementary/middle), Annie, Jr. (elementary/middle), and Jungle Book, Kids (elementary/middle). We were in the midst of working on Singin' In The Rain, Jr. when the pandemic hit and sadly were unable to perform it!
- Music directed the Broadway Star of the Future Awards (Tony-style awards show honoring high school musical theater) and our Showstoppers Broadway Intensive; the BSF Awards required teaching music, cutting music together to create medleys, and working/conducting a live band while the Broadway intensive required the same in addition to working with guest artists from Broadway in NYC.
- Accompanied high school Patel Conservatory Theater Productions on the piano, including The Addams Family (2018), Newsies (2019), and White Christmas (2019).
- Accompanied faculty and student recitals, which included at least two faculty concerts every year and multiple student productions (choir concerts, chamber concerts and intensives, etc).
- Taught adult music theater classes, which consisted of teaching music, coaching on theater solos, and creating choreography for dances.
- Accompanied the first ever student Youth Opera Camp, of which a faculty member wrote an Opera based on Chicken Little; students were middle school through high school (link here: Falling Skies)
- Create dcurriculum for piano classes and musical theater classes, which extended to creating online curriculum for our classes once we went virtual due to the pandemic.
- Performed at community events, including a Marion Anderson tribute performance hosted by the Dr. Carter G Woodson African American Museum in St. Pete.
- In addition, I also worked as a music director for a local theater company, MAD Theatre of Tampa, music directing Heathers: The Musical (2019), Man of La Mancha (2019), and Disenchanted! (2019).
2014-2018 at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in Orlando, FL
- Inaugural teaching staff; I taught multiple classes the Yamaha Piano Method, which consisted of two years training in California and a certification process.
- Accompanied musical theater and classical voice classes culminating in semester performances.
- Taught musical theater classes to middle school students; two years of teaching a beginner class and advanced class which focused on learning music, choreography, and acting.
- Music directed the Applause Awards (Tony-awards style show honoring high school musical theater students in Orlando); this required conducting/rehearsing a live band, teaching students music, cutting and creating music medleys.
- Music directed and vocal coached Take It From The Top! summer camp, an intensive students from late elementary through high school participated in with the help of Broadway singers and dancers. This week-long intensive culminated in a 2.5 hour performance at the end of the week!
- Created the first musical theater summer camp for late elementary/middle school students; I was in charge of helping plan curriculum, picking out music, teaching choreography, and working with three groups of students.
- Revamped the entire piano curriculum just before I left in 2018; the center was parting ways with Yamaha and wanted new methods, materials, and classifications for their piano program.
In addition to all of the above, I've been teaching private piano and voice lessons since graduating from UCF in 2011; I've avidly worked as a freelance pianist, accompanist, and vocal coach in the Orlando since graduation and love every second of it!
