Florida Standards Assessment
The state of Florida has created a website containing information regarding the new Florida Standards Assessment which is replacing the FCAT 2.0 Mathematics and Reading assessments. On the website’s homepage there is a link titled “Training Tests” in the bottom right corner of the home page. This link provides you with a sample of the various formats of test questions the students will be required to answer. We strongly recommend our students and parents/guardians take the training tests so you are familiar with the expectations of the upcoming assessments.
Volunteer/Chaperone Forms
If you would like to volunteer in a classroom, chaperone a field trip or help in other areas on campus, you must first fill out a volunteer application and be cleared before you can volunteer. Please contact the front office for more information or fill out the online volunteer application.

Parents Have a Key Role in Emergency Response
During and following an emergency situation, school and district officials must act quickly and follow established emergency protocols to safeguard students and staff, secure schools, and communicate accurate information in a timely manner. Parents can assist greatly by helping with preparation before the emergency.
Parent Notification of Student Evacuation
In the event the school is evacuated and that weather or other safety conditions are such that they may pose a threat to students identified above, the principal will make a determination as to the advisability of evacuating medically fragile students and regular students to another site. If it appears that an out of school evacuation is necessary the principal will order the medically fragile students evacuated to DeLand Middle School or alternate location. The district will provide transportation as soon as drivers can be dispatched. Freedom Elementary has a written agreement with DeLand Middle School and alternate sites to provide temporary shelter for both medically fragile and regular students in the unlikely event a complete evacuation becomes necessary. The media staging area will be in the parking lot of TJ Maxx at 2615 S. Woodland Blvd., DeLand.
DeLand Middle School is located at 1400 Aquarius Ave. DeLand, FL 32724 off of Taylor Rd. in DeLand, (386) 822-5678
