    About Discovery Elementary

Discovery Elementary is located in a residential area in Deltona, Florida , midway between Daytona Beach and Orlando.  Discovery serves 720 students in Kindergarten through Fifth grade.  Our educational program includes regular as well as special education classes.  Only one bus is required to serve our students.  Most of our students ride bikes, walk, or are driven to school.  An extended day program is provided at our facility, which serves our students in morning and afternoon.

    Title One:

Discovery has a school-wide Title I program with approximately 82% of our students benefiting from the free/reduced lunch program.  Title I also contributes greatly to many of the programs that are available to all our students.

    Student Population:

Our population consists of about 40% white and 60% minority.  Due to our multicultural population, many of our teachers have or are currently completing their ESOL endorsement.

    Parent Involvement:

Discovery has an active Volunteer Program with many volunteers, averaging more than 12,000 hours per year.  In addition, there is a strong PTA, which provides support in a variety of ways.  Parents are informed of school activities and opportunities to assist their child's achievement through our school website, informational handouts, and  Connect Ed phone calls.

    Staff:

Discovery has a quality staff dedicated to excellence and professional growth. Of our faculty, many  have advanced degrees.  Our teachers participate in staff development on a regular basis throughout the year.
