AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is an academic program dedicated to helping students set and achieve goals by preparing them for college, career, and life readiness success. AVID places students in advanced courses with the support of the AVID Elective Class. Students are selected based on academic and social ability, and desire and determination.
We are so excited to be able to offer this outstanding program to students who are interested in improving their academic, social, and leadership skills as they prepare for and want to continue their education after high school. AVID recruits students in the academic middle, this means students who usually earn B's and sometimes C's for grades, but have the potential of earning A's and B's with motivation and guidance, have the desire to gain college, career, and life readiness, and demonstrate the willingness to work hard in order to be the best version of themselves they can be.
In AVID, students are placed in advanced classes, and will also take the AVID/Critical Thinking elective course as a requirement. The AVID elective provides ongoing guidance and motivation by teaching and applying higher level questioning strategies, the WICOR methodologies and techniques (see below), offering bi-weekly tutorials, study/learning group sessions, team building and collaboration, weekly grade monitoring and conferencing, and many field study opportunities.
Interested students can fill out an application below and bring it to the AVID Informational Meeting on Monday, June 21st, 2021 at the Deltona Middle Cafeteria at 10:00 AM. Applications will also be available to fill out during the meeting.
