    Principal's Message

    Dear Deltona Lakes Family,

Well, let me start out by saying that my first year as principal of Deltona Lakes Elementary was amazing!  Deltona Lakes is truly a community-oriented school.  As principal of the school, I had the privilege of working with such wonderful staff members, parents and students.  Thank you all for welcoming me into your school with open arms!

This year we have a lot to celebrate.  We've made academic gains in all areas.  Some of the most notable gains were in 3rd grade Math, we went from 49% of our students scoring a 3 or higher to 61%.  In 4th grade Math, we went from 44% of our students scoring 3 or higher to 52%.  In 5th grade ELA, we went from 35% of our students scoring a 3 or higher to 47%.  Our biggest gain was in 5th grade Science.  Our students scoring a 3 or higher went from 36% to 50%.  Kudos to all our students and teachers for their hard work!  We also regained the status of being a Five Star School.  In order to qualify for this award, a school must achieve 100% of the criteria in the categories of Business Partnerships, Family Involvement, Volunteers, Student Community Service and School Advisory Councils.

Our goal for 2017-2018 is to continue in this upward trend.  In order to accomplish this goal, we need your support.  Please support us in this endeavor by sending your child to school every day and on time.  Loss of instructional time creates gaps in the educational process.  Also, your cooperation is needed in our efforts to reinforce the importance of coming to school prepared and ready to learn; this will assist us tremendously.  Please encourage the love of reading by reading with your child at least 20 minutes daily. "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." ― Dr. Seuss

Some of the activities/events that we will be offering this year are after-school tutoring, Saturday Boot Camp, Science Night, Math Night, morning computer lab sessions, technology day, Ensemble performance, talent show and our fabulous Fall Festival to name just a few activities.  I look forward to working with all of you next year!!  DLE is only as amazing as we make it!  So as a school community, let's make the commitment to try our very best in everything we do. The possibilities are endless!  "Oh, The Places We'll Go!"
