    Statement of Philosophy

     Deltona High School Counselors believe:

    • All stakeholders deserve respect
    • We serve all students
    • All students deserve to feel safe and secure at school
    • We advocate for student’s academic, personal/personal and career needs
    • We promote communication with students, parents, teachers, administrators, staff and community
    • Students are responsible for their educational success and choices

And that the Deltona High School’s comprehensive school counseling program should:

    • Be based on SMART goals derived from data
    • Be based on the Florida Framework for Guidance and Counseling as well as the ASCA National Standards
    • Be planned by the school counseling team with input from an advisory board
    • Be evaluated by all stakeholders

And that all counselors in Deltona High School:

    • Abide by the professional school counseling ethics as advocated by the Volusia/Flagler Counseling Association, the Florida School Counseling Association, and the American School Counselor Association.
    • Participate in professional development activities that improve the quality of the school counseling program.

    Confidentiality

An important obligation of school counselors is to maintain the confidentiality of their relationships with students. Therefore, the confidentiality of information received, and of any written or pupil records, is safeguarded. School counselors are obliged not to disclose information that a student has shared within the context of the counseling relationship, except under three conditions:

    • Where disclosure is required by law (i.e. when there is reasonable suspicion of abuse of children or elderly persons, or by court-ordered subpoena).
    • Where the student presents a serious danger of violence to another.
    • Where the student is likely to harm him/herself unless protective measures are taken.

Please know that our policy of confidentiality is rarely breached. But in the unlikely event that it is, your counselor will make every effort to let you know before doing so.
