    ​​​​​​​Below is an overview of the Clubs and Activities offered at DeLand Middle for the school year.  Please reference the school calendar on the bottom right of the home page for details regarding meeting dates, times and special events.  


    ​Battle of the Books

    ​Activity Description:   Students will compete against local middle school teams in the upcoming Battle of the Books.  Students will have the opportunity to read, discuss and create questions about this book and other award-winning books.  Students will then ​compete in battles against local schools in the Battle of the Books Championships.

    BETA CLUB  

    Activity Description:  Beta Club is a national organization that promotes service and leadership. Membership is based on the National Beta Club Guidelines. Students must have a 3.7 GPA or higher from the previous school year to join. They must also have all level 1’s in conduct and no referrals in order to be considered for membership.

    Boys Basketball​​

    ​Activity Description:   Any boy wanting to learn more about the game of basketball.  Be respectful, able to follow directions and listen while having a positive attitude.

    Creative Writing Club 

    ​Activity Description:   Students will work collaborate to write for fun - poetry, short stories, song lyrics, scripts, momoirs, story lines, and comic story-boards.

    Cross Country​​

    ​Activity Description:   Cross Country ​running ​​​is a sport in which runners and/or teams run over ​​natural terrrain.  If intereseted in cross country or running club please see ​Mr. DiMuro.

    ​FCA –THE FELLOWSHIP OF CHRISTIAN ATHLETES 

    ​Activity Description: To present to students and all whom they influence, the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, serving him in their relationships and in the fellowship of the church.

    FFA 

    Activity Description: The DeLand Middle FFA chapter strives to build in each of its members, the mission statement of the National FFA Organization: premier leadership, personal growth and career success. To achieve these goals, members participate in monthly chapter meetings, leadership conferences, career development events, and community service projects. Members have the opportunity to raise livestock and work on a traditional farm, which is located on campus. Travel to state and national conventions is also an option form members receiving recognition at these levels.

     FFEA 

    Activity Description: The FFEA Club is a service learning student organization with a state and national support system. Students interested in pursuing a career in the educational field are welcome to join the club to learn more about the responsibilities of teaching and the path to take to become a teacher. Club members are given the opportunity to work one on one with teachers in their classrooms helping prepare and deliver lessons. Club members also will have the opportunity to assist teachers in their classrooms and help with service related projects on school campus.

    Girls Basketball​​

    ​Activity Description:   Any girl wanting to learn more about the game of basketball.  Be respectful, able to follow directions and listen while having a positive attitude.

    ​Pep Squad 

    Activity Description: The purpose of the Pep Squad is to promote team spirit and exemplify sportsmanship to create enthusiasm for team sports and DeLand Middle School. The squad will perform at basketball games, participate in school and community activities, and possibly perform on a competitive level.

    Rising Sisters 

    Activity Description: Rising sisters will focus on academic and social issues through group activities, progress reports and journal writing. Every other month a female quest speaker will discuss her occupation and the multitude of opportunities that lie ahead. The goal is to have the students volunteer at a retirement home, dine-out using proper etiquette, tour local university, and participate in school and school activities.

    SGA – Student Government Association 

    ​​Activity Description: Student Government is a service organization that incorporates leadership skills and community service. As leaders the students are expected to maintain a B average and earn all 1’s in conduct. The students are responsible for various fundraisers to enhance the DMS environment and to assist at school events.

    Science Olympiad 

    ​Activity Description:   Science Olympiad is a nationally recognized as an academic science competition.  Our school team will prepare for a regional competition at Embry Riddle University in January.    This year to be competitive we are registering two teams, each with 15-17 members.  The registration fee is $30.00 per student with scholarships available.  Students expressing interest need to request further information from their science teacher or see Mrs. French​ and Mr. Stephenson​.
