    General Information

The Blue Lake Elementary School Media Staff seeks to make the media center an integral part of the school program.  The underlying goal of the entire open media center concept is to establish a lifelong love of reading and enjoyment for the media center as a place to locate information.
The media center is open to students from 7:45 a.m. to 2:20 p.m.  Kindergarten through fifth grade will participate in media classes and full use of the center.  Students will receive age appropriate instruction on the use of the media center, literature enrichment, study skills, and STEM/technology related lessons.  Students can keep their book(s) for two weeks maximum.  If they are not finished with the book after that time period, they need to renew it for another two weeks.  Students in grades K-2 may check out one book at a time.  Students in grades 3-5 may check out two books at a time if they so choose.  We encourage the younger students to bring their books back after one week.  Overdue fines will not be charged; however, students are financially responsible for any lost or damaged books.  Lost books should be paid for  in the media center.  If you have questions regarding lost books and fines, please call us at 822-4070 (x21945 or x22096). The classroom teacher will determine how often they can come to the media center for check out outside of their special area time.  Students also can come to the center to take Reading Counts quizzes.  We would like students to feel comfortable in using the media center and eventually be able to use it independently.
