    New Teachers - Welcome to Volusia County Schools!

    Welcome to Volusia County Schools and the Empowering Educators for Excellence (E3) program.  E3, Volusia's new teacher induction program, is designed to support all new teachers to our district.  The Office of Professional Learning is excited to be an integral part in developing our teachers into effective educators. This website will provide information about the program and its requirements. 

    Our goals are to build a strong instructional foundation that will positively impact your students, and to empower and grow powerful new teachers in Volusia County!


    E3 Program Overview

    What are the E3 program requirements?

    E3 is a two year program for the novice teacher, a one year program for the experienced teacher new to Volusia County Schools, and a one year program for teachers returning to Volusia County Schools with two or more years break in service.

    The first year of the E3 prorgram is called E3 Year 1 (E3Y1).

    E3 Program

    Who participates in the E3 program?

    1. The novice teacher – a person in their first year of teaching.
    2. New to Volusia County Schools - regardless of years of teaching experience.
    3. Returning to Volusia County Schools with more than 2 years break in service.

    Why the E3 Program?

    1. It has been a requirement since July 1, 1997 for each district to have a teacher induction program.
    2. The Volusia Teacher contract also requires for all teacher new to Volusia County to participate in E3.


    Professional Learning Requirements for E3Y1

    Requirement #1 - Pre-service Training (three days of training that occurs in August  - a 24 credit hour requirement)

    Pre-service for 2015-16 - August 11, 12, 13 at Mainland High, 7:30-3:30

    Requirement #2 - Professional Learning Institutes (PLIs) - (an 8 credit hour requirement)

    • Attend two 3-hour Professional Learning Institutes (PLIs). These will occur four times this school year after school hours per the Volusia teacher contract.

    Mentoring Requirements

    All E3 Y1 teachers will have a "Teacher Partner" assigned to them by a school administrator. The Teacher Partner is a non-compensated position and is a colleague willing to assist the new teacher with school specific information.

    • The novice teacher will receive a Peer Assistance and Review (PAR) teacher mentor. 
    • E3 experienced teachers will not be assigned a PAR teacher.
    • A school-based administrator has been assigned to oversee all E3 participants at their school. They are referred to as the "Building Level Administrator." They will also meet with the E3 participants at a minimum quarterly and will assist disseminating information to the E3 participants.
