Page ContentAlternative certification is a program designed to make it possible for a wider number of people to consider a career in teaching. Through alternative certification individuals who have a Bachelor's Degree in a field other than education can earn a teaching certificate while they are employed as a teacher. The Volusia County School District does not offer an Alternative Certification Program, however, Teachers can complete the Educator Preparation Institute (EPI) program at an accredited college/university of their choice such as Daytona State College, Seminole State College, and others. In addition to successfully completing an alternative certification program, participants will need to apply for certification. Alternative Certification program participants will also be required to achieve passing scores on three tests given by the Florida Department of Education.
