The Heart Truth

Did you know that heart disease is the leading cause of death in women (not just men) in the United States, and yet only 54% of women recognize this statistic? In fact, it causes more deaths than all forms of cancers combined. And sadly, from 2010-2014, Volusia County had higher death rates from heart disease than the state of Florida.

As your community hospital, Halifax Health is committed to bring awareness and prevention education to you, the people of our community, to combat these startling statistics on heart disease. This year we are providing two major events for the community to be involved with:

  • Follow the HeART Path this February: Halifax Health has partnered with a local artist, Beth O'Connor, to create a mural called "Your Heart Matters." This mural will be mobile and was specially designed to help spread heart health awareness throughout Volusia County in February. The mural will travel to heart-healthy businesses during the entire month. On February 3 starting at 4:30 pm we will have the unveiling party at La's Bistro in Ormond Beach – and you're invited! • Girlfriends' Guide to a Healthy Heart: Make it an early Gal-entine's Day celebration on February 11 and bring a girlfriend to Halifax Health's inaugural women's heart health empowerment seminar. Fun and informative, the event will feature an opening brunch with keynote, local vendors and giveaways, food prep demos, meditation and more. The event is free, but you must reserve your seat.
