NOTICE OF INTENDED ACTION BY SCHOOL BOARD OF VOLUSIA COUNTY

POLICY NUMBER:  School Board Policy 206

POLICY TITLE:  Student Attendance Policy

PURPOSE AND EFFECT:  The purpose of this amendment is to implement new requirements of State law regarding absences caused by autism therapy appointments.

SUMMARY OF THE ECONOMIC IMPACT ON THIS POLICY:  There is no economic impact on any agency or individual other than the cost of promulgating and disseminating this policy.   

CONSIDERATION BY THE SCHOOL BOARD OF VOLUSIA COUNTY: The proposed action will be considered by the School Board of Volusia County at the meeting to be held by the School Board on January 9, 2018, at the DeLand Administrative Complex, 200 North Clara Avenue, DeLand, Florida.  The School Board shall set aside time for the purpose of receiving comment on the proposed action at or after 5:30 p.m.  Speakers will be given up to four minutes to provide comment, in accordance with Volusia County School Board Policy 801.  If any affected person under section 120.54, Florida Statutes, would like to request a hearing in order to present evidence and argument on any issue under consideration in the revision of the policy, Certification of Consultants, he/she must submit such request in writing to the Agency Clerk, Ms. Connie Wines, at 200 North Clara Avenue, DeLand, Florida, 32720.  The request must be received by the Agency Clerk no later than 5 p.m., January 8, 2018.

IF A PERSON DECIDES TO APPEAL ANY DECISION MADE BY THE SCHOOL BOARD WITH RESPECT TO ANY MATTER CONSIDERED AT SUCH HEARING, HE/SHE WILL NEED A RECORD OF THE PROCEEDING, AND THAT, FOR SUCH PURPOSE, HE/SHE MAY NEED TO ENSURE THAT A VERBATIM RECORD OF THE PROCEEDINGS IS MADE, WHICH RECORD INCLUDES THE TESTIMONY AND EVIDENCE UPON WHICH THE APPEAL IS TO BE BASED.

PURPOSE AND EFFECT: Provides for annual update to student progression plan to comply with state law and initiatives of the School Board.

PURPOSE AND EFFECT: Authorizes the establishment of district charter schools and sale of services by the district to any charter school as its educational service provider.

If any person decides to appeal any decision made by the school board with respect to any matter considered at said meeting, he will need to record the proceedings and, for such purpose, he may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings is made, which record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based.
