On Friday, May 10th, the students of Ormond Beach Elementary School welcomed a special guest for their final Shifters Club bike ride of the 2018-2019 school year. NASCAR driver and race team owner, Scott Legasse Jr., was in attendance at Ormond Beach Elementary School to lead the Shifters afternoon ride as an honored guest. Mr. Legasse spoke with students about the importance of school and education, bicycle safety, and also provided them with a helmet fitting. Mr. Legasse completed his visit by holding a meet and greet with his racing car, opportunities for autographs, and words of encouragement about staying in school and working hard. Mr. Legasse and Ormond Beach Police Department Chief Jesse Godfrey met in the cycling world through their enjoyment of the sport. Shifters is Ormond Beach Elementary School's very own bicycle club, which meets monthly to enjoy a ride both to and from school. The club, escorted by the Ormond Beach Police Department, is open to all elementary school students, family members, community members, and staff. Meeting locations for the club alternate between Division Ave. and Wilmette Ave., so that all Ormond Beach Elementary families have the opportunity to participate in friendship, fellowship, and wellness. |
